Frequently Asked Questions
If I have feral/strays cats in my area, how can we have them spayed/neutered? Contact us at: Office 713-389-0607 or Send an email Call or text to: Robin – 979-575-1352 or Tanya 713-819-2431 We will help set humane live traps, or assist you in the process, loan traps, etc. Once the cat(s) are trapped, they are transported to either Texas Litter Control or a local Spay/neuter event. At that point the cat receives vaccines, a chip, ear tip, spayed/neutered, pain medications and a shot of antibiotics. If you can afford to help pay for some services, which helps our organization, if not we will cover the cost at one of the rescue-friendly clinics.
If I find a stray, but friendly cat or dog, do you have a shelter? No. However, if you are able to foster the animal, we will cover the costs at an approved clinic (we cannot reimburse costs to individuals) for the initial wellness exam, vaccines, worming, spay/neuter, chip, heartworm check and initial preventatives. Even if you can just Foster short term, which gets the animal off the street and to safety, them we can assist with options for a longer term foster or shelter.
If I have an after hours urgent situation with an animal …what can I do? If you can catch the animal and house it until the morning, call, text and email us. We can possible guide you to an appropriate Vet Clinic. If it is Critical then the animal needs to be taken to an Emergency or Urgent Care clinic. See Resources for options in your area.
If I find abandon , sick or injured kittens, what should I do? Get them to a safe, dry and warm location asap. If they have their eyes open then they are possibly 8-10 days old, but they should still need to be nursing or on a bottle until the are 5 to 6 weeks old. OTC milk replacer and bottles are readily available at all pet stores, Tractor Supply, etc. but the kittens may or may not take to the bottle right away. This can be very frustrating and heartbreaking when you are trying so hard to care for them. They also need to be stimulated to urinate and have a bowl movement. Please give us a call, text or email for some guidance. Sending pictures and background are helpful when contacting us.
What if I find a sick, injured or orphaned Wild animal? My first thought is, if it is in a relatively safe stable location, go to the Friends of Texas Wildlife website- FTWL.org, call them at 281-259-0039 or Send an email. You’ll find guidance for all kinds of different species, a help and assistance tab, etc. For example: If you find a baby bunny do not give it milk replacer. Give it unflavored Pedialyte until you can visit with them about an on-going plan of action.
